About the program
The Bezalel Industrial Design Masters program is a two-year program educating outstanding designers and creators to take on leading roles in an ever-changing world.
The program offers three tracks: Design Management and Innovation, Experimental Design (About Design), and Design and Technology, in which the students gain tools, knowledge, and creative study. The program is based on the premise that designers are agents of change facilitating interdisciplinary connections, as well as new perspectives and original solutions to current issues. The program creates opportunities for experiencing work in various fields: hi-tech and industry, the curatorial and art world, the academic and research world, the third sector, and local authorities - as well as in the framework of international cooperations with leading academies. 

​The program exposes the students to the deeper meanings of central processes currently taking place in the world. It allows them to translate processes of innovation and design thinking into a distinct personal language while integrating processes related to product design and new services in a competitive dynamic world. In the course of their studies, the students build their ability to integrate into multidisciplinary teams and develop processes. In addition, the students acquire tools to act in a global environment, connect with interested parties, and balance different requirements. These skills will be the central foundation in the students’ ability to find their place and to succeed in the Israeli and global markets.

​The program opened in 2003 and our graduates have taken positions in the industry and design fields: as innovation team managers in local authorities and the Air Force, hi-tech and startups product designers, UI/UX designers in global companies such as Microsoft, HP, Intel, lab managers in the Weizmann Institute and Ort education network, lecturers in design academies, and curators, creators, and entrepreneurs. Our team of lecturers includes designers and leading curators, marketing experts, and researchers with vast knowledge in strategy management, product management, and design, service management, interaction, and game design, programming, storytelling, critical thinking, curation, and writing.

The Art of Protest

Augmented reality app for acquiring skills to create a resounding protest and for involvement in a civic activity

The name of this study is The Art of Protest; the test case of this research field occurred during writing this study:  the 2020 protests, or as they were called, "Balfour protests." 

Protest is a fundamental civil right that allows an individual to exercise his or her freedoms and influence decision-making processes in a democracy. This study was researched not as a political text but as a spatial political aesthetic. My research consisted of both academic theoretical and field research and demonstrated the undeniable influence of art on creating resonant protests and political spaces of action. Studying the theories on performance by Richard Schechner, Jacques Rancier, and Hannah Arendt's politics and political Aesthetics and following a comprehensive field research I developed an educational app that refines the skill of protesting, which is lacking in Israel, by using a model of resounding protest. This app is running on augmented reality technology.

The app seeks to preserve and share events from protests that have taken place in the past; creating action spaces that combine the past with a playful experience in the present. It allows the users the sense of embodiment even if the protests are not currently occurring. The app aims to be an educational tool that allows a diverse target audience to acquire the skills to create a resounding protest and be involved in a civic activity that creates political spaces and teaches the right to protest in a democracy.

First stop - Meeting with the virtual tour guide
‘The Art of Protest’ app Selecting topics to protest, an indication of the number of families who chose the same topics, and conducting a chat with the tour guide.

Aya Segal

Aya Segal is an interior designer and design manager. She holds a bachelor's degree in interior design from the College of Management Academic and a master's degree in research for a thesis in the interdisciplinary program in the arts at Tel Aviv University. Her work combines human research, art, and exploring physical and virtual human spaces of action. Aya Examines and assimilates people's emotional and commercial connection with fashion accessories such as bags and shoes in the retail world.

The space in which we live is the total trace we leave during our lives.
